Critical to creating innovative learning environments is leadership. Decision makers must find ways to empower teachers to begin or extend the process of developing pedagogy and instructional practices that change the learning landscape for students. Effective leadership must move away from traditional policies and procedures of the past to ensure the development of an educational learning environment capable of producing citizens prepared for a new age. This session will focus on why new leaderdship models must be adopted in order to better support and nurture the type of risk taking needed to create classrooms that focus on student learning. The discussion will include why transformation is needed in education, references to research on effective leadership, and the implications of what we know about learning.
