This snapshot will explore the use of Fluency Tutor as a tool for both differentiation and efficiency. Fluency Tutor is designed as a solution to help busy teachers evaluate and assess their students’ reading fluency. The tool is free although there are “freemium features” that include online grading and comprehension questions built into the passages. Although Fluency Tutor is most obviously a tool for ELA, Literacy, and elementary teachers, it can be “hacked” into a useful tool for any grade level to use as an alternative assessment method. In short, any teacher could add Fluency Tutor to their toolkit for either increasing their efficiency during reading circles and station work or to offer students an opportunity to explain their thinking when given a prompt - in any subject. Fluency Tutor is both a website and a chrome extension and integrates well with Google Classroom. Bring your laptop or your chromebook and you'll leave with a Fluency Tutor account and an understanding of how to leverage the fabulous tool!
