Current events force us to examine the emotional side of educational relationships. How can we support learning by addressing the affective element of interactions between students, parents and educators with social emotional learning (SEL)? Discover how to champion the whole student through mindful connections. Explore emerging approaches to encourage empathy, relationship-building and kindness initiatives in this fast-paced session using a TV contest format. Participants will learn how to educate the whole child, nurture themselves and encourage their colleagues. Outline: Outline: 10 min. Start with Empathy. Audience participation: Zip, Zap, Zop 15 min. Why Build Relationships? Discussion about MTSS, SEL, and psychological safety in learning/work environments. Includes peer-to-peer interaction 15 min. How to Build Relationships in Education Processes, tools, and websites anyone can access. 15 min. What Now? SEL, CASEL website overview for further support. Presenter Bios: Delaine Johnson, Technology Integration TOSA, Clovis Unified School District. Delaine Johnson teaches coding and serves as a technology integration TOSA at Clovis Unified School District. She holds a Master of Arts in Educational Technology. She is a Google for Education Certified Innovator (#googleEI) and Certified Trainer (#googleET), and a Breakout EDU Authorized Trainer. Mike Lawrence, Chief Maverick, MaverickLearning & Senior Director, Educator Engagement, PowerSchool Mike is an award-winning teacher, administrator and educational leader. He served as the first CEO of CUE, expanding the nonprofit’s impact, and also directed the California Student Media Festival for a decade. He is Chief Maverick of MaverickLearning and heads up Educator Engagement at PowerSchool.
