Aside from having engaging speaking skills, Julia brings truth to power through her lens as a teacher of color and advocate for lifting all voices in education. Julia Torres is a speaker with experience, yet tells the story of our students through social media every day from her role in the library and in classrooms. She has spoken/presented/led at National Council of Teachers of English/Colorado Language Arts Society, SXSW Ed, Educolor, Ignite Denver...and the list goes on. Julia is a Heinneman Fellow and leader in several national organizations that help connect students with books/authors that tell the stories of their lives in current Young Adult lit. She is currently the teacher librarian at Montbello Campus in Far North East, Denver--a space with 5 co-located middle and high schools that had not had a functioning library for over three years. Prior to this position, Julia was an AP English teacher at DCIS at Montbello HS, one of the schools co-located on that campus.
