Design and launch Orion rocket, wire models of temporary shelters and see how CAD design and a 3D printer have been used to design products for authentic purposes and audiences. Come see the designs made by children during their dialysis session. This session will focus on how STEM activities engage and distract elementary and middle level students during dialysis at Children’s Hospital Colorado. See how STEM activities can easily be accomplished while students are tethered to a chair for three to four hours. See how QR codes are used to assist patients in accessing critical content. Learn how we monitored student understanding with simple tech tools. S.T.E.M. activities are optional during dialysis. Patients can play video games or watch T.V. if they want. This session will show how S.T.E.M. activities have replaced hours of T.V. viewing and video games.
