This poster will present an experimental model of online course design and research findings obtained from an in-progress exploratory study. As part of a First in the World grant, Wake Technical Community College has deployed an experimental method of online course delivery designed to increase retention and student success among minority males in online classes. Phase one of data collection took place in the 2017-2018 academic year with a high-attrition online Psychology and high-attrition online Business class as part of a randomized control study. This poster will outline the course design and instruction method itself and present results and conclusions from the data collection from phase one. The poster will also present preliminary data from phase two—modifying and deploying the method in an online computer literacy course, for which data collection is currently underway. Participants will have opportunities to ask questions about both the method itself as well as future research spawning from current results and observations.
