Join Becky for a discussion about the unnecessary ceilings we put on ourselves, our students, and our colleagues. Reflect on what can happen when we intentionally examine the origins of those ceilings and move past them to a space where everyone can reach their potential. Topics will include STEM education, design thinking, postsecondary readiness, cognitive and implicit bias, and some resources for moving forward. As a Program Manager at St. Vrain Valley Schools' Innovation Center, Becky has the opportunity to work with schools and educators around the 32,000 student district, and has the privilege to celebrate the special talents and unique contributions of many of the staff and scholars in St. Vrain. Participants in this session will gain insights into St. Vrain's journey and current offerings, the cognitive biases that - left unexamined - might get in the way of providing such opportunities, and the mindsets we must adopt and employ to outsmart our own implicit bias.
